AFTER CARE
Why is aftercare so important?
Aftercare is how you take care of the tattoo afterwards to ensure your fresh cosmetic tattoo heals well and to avoid infection.
Aftercare can make or break your permanent makeup! Following the instructions and do’s and don’ts below will ensure you give your brows and lips the best conditions to heal as beautifully as possible.
It might sound complicated, but honestly it’s not at all. I just try to give you as much information as possible because I take your face seriously, it’s just a little maintenance for a whole lot of NO maintenance!
CARING FOR YOUR NEW COSMETIC TATTOO
Twice a day for 10 days after your appointment.
- Splash your face with warm water and GENTLY wash your brows or lips with DABBING motions using a pea sized amount of gentle cleaner. I recommend using Cetaphil, QV, Dermaveen or baby shampoo (available at any supermarket or pharmacy). Gently rinse off the soap with warm water by splashing your tattoo with water.
- PAT dry thoroughly with tissues or cotton pads.
- Apply a rice grain-sized amount of the provided ointment (Bepanthen) to each brow or lip. Never apply ointment to damp skin and don’t suffocate them by applying too much ointment.
- Apply a rice grained-sized amount of ointment once more during the day. (Lips can have ointment applied as much as needed).
THINGS TO AVOID AFTER YOUR TREATMENT
- For the first 2 weeks, keep your face out of the water and don’t let your showers get too steamy. Make sure not to get any other products on your face.
- No touching unless you have washed your hands thoroughly and keep the area clean to avoid infection.
- Do not scratch, pick or force off any scabbing or flaking. This may cause scarring and result in loss of pigment
- If skin becomes itchy, apply ointment to the spot using a cotton tip.
- Keep the treated area shaded from the sun for 1 month (wear a hat when outdoors).
- Don’t enter saunas, spas, or steam rooms for 2 weeks.
- Don’t put any products including makeup directly on the treated area for 2 weeks.
- Do not apply any active cosmetics to your face such as AHA’s, Retinol or acids for 4 weeks after treatment.
- Do not have any skin treatments for 4 weeks because your skin is still healing.
- Avoid sweating for 2 weeks after your treatment.
SPECIFICALLY FOR LIPS:
- Use a straw to drink, and avoid touching food to the lips for the first 5 days after the procedure (eat foods that you can put directly in your mouth with a fork and avoid foods such as hamburgers or soup).
- Do not eat spicy food for the first 72 hours because it will hurt.
- Avoid getting toothpaste on your lips and do not use any teeth whitening products for 4 weeks.
- Avoid rubbing your lips together for the first 4 weeks after your appointment.
-
If you have EVER had cold sores, it is advised to ask a chemist for a cold sore preventative such as Lysine to take for 2 weeks leading up to your appointment and also Famvir (or similar) to take immediately if you feel a cold sore coming on after your Lip Tint appointment. Carriers of the herpes simple will experience an outbreak if a preventative is not taken and this will affect the tattoo.
